Through the Eyes of a Wolf

A huge thanks to Wolf's Angel  for allowing me to use her tender and inspirational poem as the lyrics for this song, which can be downloaded by clicking on the widget below for  £0.99. All proceeds go to the Howling Acres Wolf Sanctuary.  Set out below is what they have to say about themselves.

Howling Acres Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of wolves. It was founded in 1991 by the LaBats. It is located on 13 acres of timbered hillsides in beautiful Southern Oregon. Howling Acres currently cares for 29 wolves and wolf dogs, with many more on waiting lists . Staff, visitors and volunteers of many diverse skills come out each day to feed, give medical attention, care and just plain love these wonderful creatures. Brief History: Howling Acres Wolf Sanctuary was founded 10 years ago by the LaBats. In 1991, they received their first wolf cub from a photographer who was living in Alaska. He decided that he couldn't handle the animal and gave it to them. Sherrie LaBat began learning all she could about wolves, and the word got out. Then all kinds of wolves were referred by other sanctuaries, veterinarians, and State and Federal agencies. These wolves were orphaned, abandoned or injured and needed medical attention. Since that time, the LaBats have cared for more than 30 wolves. "Our goal is to give them a place to live for the rest of their lives." ~Sherrie LaBat Thank you for your support. Mission Statement: Our philosophy is based on the principle that people preserve only what they care about, understand or feel connected to in a personal way. Howling Acres provides a safe shelter for orphaned and injured wolves. We offer educational tours, recreational activities, special events and live demonstrations. This is essential for providing a foundation for understanding and appreciation for wolves and their continuing battle for survival.

Our goal is to develop our wolf sanctuary not only as a home for abandoned or injured wolves, but as an educational opportunity by having tours and teaching children and adults about the uniqueness and special qualities of the wolf and wolf dogs. The making of trails, observation areas, developing classes and giving live demonstrations are just some of the projects we are now trying to establish here at Howling Acres. There is a Gift Shop for Howling Acres now, which is one of the projects we have accomplished. We currently are reaching as many schools as possible, along with the general public, by having field trips, classroom demonstrations, on-site events and advertising in the media. All this, and more, is with the goal of promoting public awareness, understanding and appreciation for the wolves and their continuing battle for survival.

Through The Eyes of a Wolf

Forgive me, for I know not what I do.
Hated, feared, hunted, murdered.
Why do the forests run red with our blood?
The machine in the sky, stirs the air, shakes the trees,
rains down bolts of silver upon us.
We run.....run for our lives.

Those who fear us and seek to destroy us
are of dark hearts and closed minds.
There are good humans, who see through
stories of old that tell tales of untruths.
Those that defend us know we are not so different,
for they are of compassionate nature.

A wise wolf once said :
Be safe, move swiftly,
he who hides in shadows.
Guardian, hunter, teacher, mother.
Beautiful spirit of the night who's song
reaches as far as the moon.

Your kind will not be banished to a trail
of paw prints left in the earth.
Be strong, defender of all that is good
for your cries no longer fall on deaf ears.
Although you will always be misunderstood.
Nature always finds a way and the earth
will provide a future for wolf kind.
