![]() Every September for 500 years or so a bull has been run through the village streets of Tordesillas, Spain in honour of the Virgin Mary. It is called the Toro de la Vega. All bullfighting is horrific and is largely supported by tourists, especially us Brits I am afraid. This event is the pinnacle of that sick activity, where for maybe an hour or two the wretched animal has to run the gaunlet of spears, knives and anything else the baying villagers can injure and torment it with, without killing it. That has to wait until it is forced across a bridge to a place where one of the "brave" men of the village can finish off this weakened and terrified animal. They then (or used to before the mayor of the town thought it too primitive) cut off the bull's testicles as a trophy. What can you say? |
